We were up against probably one of the two strongest sides in the League with this fixture, and it showed a bit!   This was the senior of the three Stalbridge sides that are in the League, and all their players were a year (at least!) older.  Nevertheless, the Buckeroos showed great spirit and no little skill, so well done them.

We batted first and although we only lost 4 wickets, we just managed to amass 233.  The Stalbridge bowling was very tight on the whole, and a degree quicker than anything we faced from Sherborne.  I blame myself too.  I had just advised one Stalbridge bowler – after he had opened with 2 wides – to calm down and concentrate on the wicket as he bowled.  He bowled Harry next ball……………..

Not out scores were registered by Fergus (again), Charlie and Felix.

Stalbridge opened confidently and didn’t lose a wicket until the 8th over, when Rhodri took a return catch.  Cass took a wicket in the next over, and just for a moment, we had a sniff.  Everyone bowled to their potential – they just came up against some good young batsmen.  The fielding was brave and keen by all, and well done Fergus for keeping so well.  Stalbridge ran out deserved winners scoring 313/2.

Well done too to Harry, Ollie and Milo for their all round efforts.  Charlie did a good job as Skipper – it is never easy captaining a side when the ball is flying everywhere.

So heads up Buckeroos – no disgrace to lose to a very strong Stalbridge team, and we will be competitive against the other Stalbridge sides, and the rest too.

All best, Robin
