2010 ANNUAL DINNER AND AWARDS (26th Nov 2010)   –   Another landmark year…

The Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony marked a most successful and encouraging season for all the teams.  BWCC won the Three Counties League for the second year running while the mid-week team finished second in the 2nd division of the Ranston League and reached the finals of the Cup competition.

Tim Ovenden, chairman of youth cricket, gave a warm account of his experiences  and memories of running the Buckhorn Weston youth cricket programme.  This programme reflects the Club’s strong commitment to youth cricket which started with Under 9’s six years ago.    This year’s Under 15 team are the very first to have completed the full youth programme .   Tim paid tribute to their individual commitment and progress as well as their collective team spirit, and he looked forward to seeing them develop their cricketing interests in the years ahead.  To mark this special occasion, the Under 15’s team were each presented with a miniature cricket bat.

The presentations to the Seniors were:-

Batting Cup Simon Beetham
Bowling Cup Simon Beetham
All Rounder’s Cup Jay Wescarr
Bob Carter Memorial Trophy
(Best Under 18 Player)
George Wayman
John Bagnall Tankard
(Player’s Player)
Adam Beetham
David Rose Cup

Jeremy Owen

 Some memories of the evening…

Simon receiving his two CupsAn astounding season – 969 runs in Sunday cricket.  Plus in the League, he averaged of 58.17 in 7 matches, and took 17 wickets.  Rupert Dyke, Captain of the Mid Week team, collecting the All Rounder’s Award on behalf of Jay Wescarr  Bob Carter Memorial TrophyRodney Wayman accepting the Most Promising Cricketer Award for his son George

Adam Beetham, having collected the John Bagnall Tankard.  The players themselves select the winner for this award. Jeremy Owen receiving the David Rose Cup, marking our “Personality of the Year” from the President, Malcolm Hooker.

On a slightly different note, there was some not so good news from Companies House, the government registrar for storing information on limited companies.  It appears we have fallen foul of their target-chasing attitude – click here to read our Treasurer’s circular on the matter!  We are obviously fighting this, so if you have any thoughts or comments, do please email us – jobsworth@buckhornwestoncc.co.uk.  We will keep you up to date with the story as it unfolds!

The evening was well attended by players and supporters alike.  Thanks to all the helpers for a very successful and enjoyable evening!

“A most successful and encouraging 2010 season”           11 Nov 2010

“Our Club continues to progress.  The Three Counties League was won for the second year running losing only one match.  The mid week team finished second in the 2nd division of the Ranston League and reached the finals of the Cup competition.  There was considerable support from the youths and once again Mark C produced excellent results from the Under 13’s in their first year in this age group.  The Committee are battling with the enduring problem attached to the running of youth cricket.  In particular we are indebted to the Chairman of Youth Cricket, Tim Ovenden, who is carrying out a detailed review of our procedures and management of the teams.

“The Sunday League has attracted two new teams, Warminster and Puddletown.  The standard of cricket being played progresses, this will put us under pressure to succeed again next season with matches taking place during final exam time.  It is hoped that our youth policy will provide cricketers competing for places in the 1st XI.

“On the playing front our Captains Adam B (Sunday) and Rupert D (Mid Week evenings) worked tirelessly to produce teams against the problem of players being inconsistent in their availability.  It is the scourge of local cricket and despite the success of the Club we are reliant on the progress and enthusiasm of the youths.  I must mention the achievements of two of our players.  Simon B enjoyed an incredibly successful season scoring 969 runs in Sunday cricket alone and top scoring with 201 not out in 30 overs in the last match!  He scored 349 runs in 7 league matches at an average of 58.17.  His brother Adam made 236 runs at an average of 59.  Simon also topped the bowling averages taking 17 wickets in the League.  The other player George O, son of Tim, was selected for the 1st XI on Sundays at just 15 years of age where he opened the bowling and came second to Simon taking 10 wickets in the League with a best performance of 4 for 24.

Our new web site is now up and running, bringing a new format and structure which hopefully will prove easy for everyone to navigate.  Further developments will take place over the winter, in  particular bringing in material from the earlier web.   Next season we aim to keep you totally up to date with all the fixtures and results on a regular basis.

Feedback and suggestions – as well as contributions, stories, pictures and results/reports – are always welcome.  Indeed, these are essential if the web is to fully portray the club and it’s members, so please do contact your webmaster.  Probably the easiest way to contact me is via email, and to establish initial contact, please use the email us link at the bottom of the page.
