“Skipper’s maiden five-fer sees Buckhorn win international fixture”

Buckhorn set off from the pub at 9(ish)am to travel to Lymington ferry port to catch their 10:45 ferry to the island.  Everyone arrived at the port in time, however the need for bacon rolls almost resulted in the Dodds missing the ferry!  Once on the island Buckhorn made the pleasant drive across to Shanklin for their first international game of the summer.  The ground was quaint and a decent-looking pitch had been prepared.   Continue reading

Our 2011 Summer Ball  was held on July 2nd  –  a perfect summer’s evening  –  and was a great success.  The marquee was filled to capacity as was the dance floor.  After an excellent supper, we were entertained by the Larisa Russian Dance Group from Siberia who are the leading Russian amateur group and were in the UK especially for us.  They gave us a very colourful and energetic display with many changes of costume and tempo.  The dancing was to the Torn Off Strips, an Andover-based band who managed to keep us all on our toes.

Many thanks to all those who came and to all those who helped make the evening fun and successful.

Sunday 29th May 2011: Buckhorn Weston CC v President’s XI (Hampshire Maniacs CC)

Malcolm’s Best No match For Buckhorn’s Young Guns

Buckhorn’s players arrived suitably smart for the annual President’s Day Game against the Hampshire Maniacs and the team looked in good shape, with the return of the Sherbornians and other casualties to exam season.  The Maniacs were unbeaten against Buckhorn, but the games have been starting to get much closer of late; so today was set to be an exciting contest.  Play commenced after players on both sides enjoyed a ploughman’s lunch, served up courtesy of Suzanne Beetham and Karen Chinnock and desert provided by the Owens.  It was a brilliant spread and was testament to the efforts put into producing it, which were much appreciated by all. Two warm up games against Marnhull and Stalbridge produced startling results in favour of the club.  The club next played Puddletown and Thornford in the Three Counties League securing victories in both games.  Continue reading
