Hello to all members, both old and potentially new!

We have plenty of cricket this season to satisfy all needs – a full Sunday card of 3 Counties League and Friendlies, the Ranston Evening League and after last season’s success a much increased number of games for the friendly evening side – the Stingers.  We are also running  u15 and u13 Junior sides.
We will also hosting Ranston matches for Sport Shed CC – they are a Gillingham based side, chaired by Josh Mead formerly of this parish, who don’t have a home ground.  They have their own fixture card for the season, but we are really keen that their players both feel able and would like to turn out for Buckhorn when games don’t clash.

Most importantly our Sunday side  needs as much support as possible.  Adam and Simon B have moved on, and most sadly, Simon D has had to retire from playing cricket due to a very dodgy knee, so there big are holes to fill!  With this at the forefront of our thoughts for the coming season we are having two Club matches to kick the season off on the 19 and 26 April – these are games to which all senior, u15 and Sport Shed can come and play in mix and match teams.  These start at 2pm and will be very much social cricket – a chance for everyone to join in.  There will of course be teas laid on, but also a BBQ and beer for the thirsty!  These games will also act as Registration Days – we have reduced our senior membership fee to £20 (this helps cover the considerable cost of ground upkeep and insurance – only paid up members are covered by the Club’s insurance).

We’ll also need help off the field too – so all volunteers welcome.  It is really important for the Club that we get as many playing members as possible to support these matches – so do please come along.

The new fixture card will soon be available but other dates for your diary include:

  • 6 a side tournament on 28th June (bbq and beer)
  •  Cricket tour to Devon 21/23 August
  • Summer Ball on 5th September.

Other social activities will be organised through the season.

Work on the ground was going well although last Friday’s ceaseless rain brought a temporary halt.  Given the good forecast we aim to have the nets up and running by next weekend and my thanks to those who’ve been along to help get things uptogether.

I look forward greatly to meeting and greeting you all again,

A Happy Easter,

Robin
