The Club is very pleased to announce that Viridor Credits has awarded BWCC a grant of £30,000 from the Landfill Communities Fund. Part of the tax paid by landfill operators is made available to support community projects, provided that the recipient body is located within 10 miles of a landfill site.
The money will be used to buy much needed replacement equipment:
- A 3-unit trailed gang mower
- A 3ft Auto-Roller
- A new artificial strip for the playing area
- New netting for the practice nets
- 2 mesh sightscreens
The Club’s present maintenance equipment was getting very tired and unreliable, so the opportunity to replace the key items will be an enormous help – and relief – for those who work so tirelessly to keep the ground in good condition. A very big thank you to Viridor for being willing to fund the purchase of items which some of the Sports funding bodies are reluctant to support.
We hope to have all the new items in place by April.

The 2016 Annual Dinner was held on 25th Nov and was very well attended by players, members, friends, family, supporters and VPs, all who thoroughly enjoyed the banter and entertainment. We are very grateful to the Stapleton Arms and to Steve and his team for serving generous proportions of lovely hot food followed by Eton Mess plus cheese. The raffle did well due to the generous donations of prizes, especially Andrew Barclay for the main prize of a Christmas turkey. It was also great to see Malcolm presenting the serious awards.
More words hopefully later but meanwhile some quick snaps from the evening…
Sue Hawksley and her three daughters have very generously given BWCC a flag pole and flag in memory of her husband Henry Hawksley who died in 2014.
Henry was a great supporter of Buckhorn Weston CC and ever the enthusiast and encourager, he had a great sense of humour.
The flag was ceremoniously raised on Sunday 18th September 2016 just before the start of our last home game of the season.
The flag bears the club’s logo and motto and has the yellow letters “HH” in the lower right hand corner in memory of Henry.
