Hope to have some words soon!!!

With many thanks to Rodney W for the photos of the very successful evening.

Buckeroos:  Match with Stalbridge is now 11th July.

Stingers – Extra fixture:  Tues 27th June v Tarrant Gunville (H)

As  ever, we were warmly welcomed at Shillingstone, both by the weather and by our opponents.  Hugh and Margaret Shackell are amazing stalwarts of junior cricket in North Dorset:  over 1/2 term they ran a schools competition involving over 200 children – and that included preparing 12 pitches, some on the football ground!

Anyway, our Buckeroos continued their winning ways with a very assured performance.  Shillingstone batted first and their innings never really got off the ground due to an excellent all round effort.  The wicket takers were Leo and Euan with 2 a piece, Charlie with 1 and a runout.  Our last 4 overs went for only 7 runs and 2 wides.  Felix took an excellent catch.  Cass, Oliver and Ned all conceded less than 3 runs an over – and many fewer wides were bowled by all!!!!  Well done Coaches Tommy and Simon!

When we batted, Felix and Fergus put on 21 and Leo and Cass a further 16 before a belligerent innings of 29 from Charlie put the game safely in the bag.  He was ably supported by Oliver, before Euan and Ned put on 28 for the final pair.

Fergus kept wicket very well and Skippered most calmly.

Well done all, Robin

A narrow Buckeroos victory was gained over Mere.  The ball most definitely ruled over the bat!

Mere batted first, and Milo struck with a wicket in the first over.  The boys all bowled pretty tidily and with Cass, Rhodri and Harry giving away few runs.  Euan struck with his first ball for the Buckeroos and Charlie bowled a fine last over giving no runs away during his 3 overs.  Leo couldn’t repeat his heroics of the Sherborne game but bowled well.

Mere scored 251 for 2  –  a target I thought was well with in our reach especially as Mere were down to 7.  We batted steadily, and although losing a wicket in the 11th over, had passed their total with 3 overs to spare.   But, of course, pairs cricket doesn’t end then!  Our last pair, Charlie and Leo, kept us in suspense as Charlie was bowled (scoring 10 in the meantime) and Leo was dropped by the wicket keeper whilst attempting to clear the Pavilion with 3 balls to go.  But, worry not, we ended up winning by 10.  Phew!

I too have learnt a new lesson – the words ‘ just bat sensibly’ need a little more explanation!

Anyway – well done all, and onwards to Shillingstone on Thursday.

Hurrah the Buckeroos!

Robin

We were up against probably one of the two strongest sides in the League with this fixture, and it showed a bit!   This was the senior of the three Stalbridge sides that are in the League, and all their players were a year (at least!) older.  Nevertheless, the Buckeroos showed great spirit and no little skill, so well done them.

We batted first and although we only lost 4 wickets, we just managed to amass 233.  The Stalbridge bowling was very tight on the whole, and a degree quicker than anything we faced from Sherborne.  I blame myself too.  I had just advised one Stalbridge bowler – after he had opened with 2 wides – to calm down and concentrate on the wicket as he bowled.  He bowled Harry next ball……………..

Not out scores were registered by Fergus (again), Charlie and Felix.

Stalbridge opened confidently and didn’t lose a wicket until the 8th over, when Rhodri took a return catch.  Cass took a wicket in the next over, and just for a moment, we had a sniff.  Everyone bowled to their potential – they just came up against some good young batsmen.  The fielding was brave and keen by all, and well done Fergus for keeping so well.  Stalbridge ran out deserved winners scoring 313/2.

Well done too to Harry, Ollie and Milo for their all round efforts.  Charlie did a good job as Skipper – it is never easy captaining a side when the ball is flying everywhere.

So heads up Buckeroos – no disgrace to lose to a very strong Stalbridge team, and we will be competitive against the other Stalbridge sides, and the rest too.

All best, Robin
